WHAT IS STEM CELL THERAPY

Stem cells are a repair system for your body. They are a fundamental component for building any part of the body. Their mechanism is such that they produce more cells that can replace damaged cells in any area of the body. They replicate the structure of the cells to help repair damaged areas of the body. They are versatile in these functions, as they can form nerve tissue, cardiac fabric, muscle tissue, or any other part of the body that needs recovery.

EXAMPLES OF STEM CELL THERAPY

An example of the dynamic action of stem cell activity is the fact that your body replaces your blood in its entirety through a 120-day cycle. Another example of regeneration through stem cells is your liver regenerating itself over a 3 – 4 month period. Even our skin cells are entirely replaced over a 27 day period. Based on these natural processes, stem cell therapy is being used to produce wonders with little or no side effects. The method generally entails isolating a mass of active stem cells, which is then directed to an area in your body that needs cell regeneration.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

It is an ambulatory procedure where we extract and separate the patient’s own stem cells from the tissue of their bone marrow. Patients undergo a very extensive local anesthetic and a doctor performs a collection of the bone marrow. The treatment is usually very well tolerated and patients show only limited discomfort.

The cells are stimulated after extraction by combining the laboratory process and mixing them with Platelet Rich Plasma, which is then injected into the joint which needs healing.

WHAT IS PLATELET RICH PLASMA

Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) has long been used in regenerative medicine. Essentially it’s the concentration of all the growth factors in your blood that heal tissues. Cells are centrifuged and processed to isolate the PRP after a simple blood draw procedure. In order to improve the treatment, Platelet Rich Plasma is then paired with Stem Cell therapy.

PRP can be used either as a stand-alone or in conjunction with Stem Cells. PRP has great potential for healing but it is not as successful as stem cell therapy.

There are a few contingencies when it comes to stem cell therapy progress with each individual.
